This is my honest review of The Skillians Pay After Placement program — 9 months of training, 10+ projects, and one life-changing offer. I am writing this so the next BBA graduate Googling 'skillians review' or 'the skillians pay after placement review' at 11 PM finds an unfiltered account from someone who actually went through it.
Chapter 1 — The ₹10,000 Internship and the Fear of What Comes Next
June 2024. I had just gotten my BBA degree from a Delhi University college. I should have been celebrating. Instead, I was terrified.
I had a ₹10,000/month internship at a small marketing firm in Gurugram — doing social media scheduling and Excel reports for a company that couldn't even afford to make me permanent. Every Sunday evening, a question hit me like a wall: what is actually going to happen next?
I had no technical skills. No coding background. My friends from engineering colleges were applying to TCS, Infosys, getting 4–5 LPA offers. And here I was, making ₹10,000 a month, copy-pasting data into Excel.
I spent two weeks Googling 'career options after BBA', 'how to get a 6 LPA job without an engineering degree', 'data analyst jobs for freshers'. Every course I found cost ₹80,000 to ₹2 lakhs upfront. That money didn't exist in my world.
Then, one Tuesday night at around 11 PM, while mindlessly scrolling Instagram Reels, I saw an ad: 'Pay After Placement. Learn Data Science. Pay only after you get your offer letter.' The brand was The Skillians Academy. I stopped scrolling. I watched it three times.
Chapter 2 — Did I Trust It? My Research Before Enrolling
Let me be real — my first thought was: this is a scam. 'Pay after placement' sounds too good. I spent the next four days researching.
What I searched before joining:
- skillians review — I read every Quora thread, Google review, and LinkedIn post. Mostly positive, no one called it a fraud.
- the skillians pay after placement review — Found 3 detailed YouTube videos from alumni. Two were placed at product companies.
- skillians placement — Their website showed offer letters from PwC, Deloitte, Swiggy, Netflix, Apple. ₹47.6 LPA highest.
- Is The Skillians legit? — A Reddit thread with mixed opinions, but negatives were mostly from people who dropped out midway.
- Skillians vs Masai vs AccioJob — Skillians was the only one with a CTC guarantee program for Data Science (8 LPA tech / 6 LPA non-tech).
After four days I booked the free counselling call. I was upfront — BBA degree, zero coding background, ₹10,000 a month. She didn't pressure me. She explained the PAP structure clearly and said: 'We only earn when you get placed. So we're both in this together.' That line sold me.
I enrolled three days later. Paid the registration fee. Signed the PAP agreement. I was still scared. But for the first time in months, I had a plan.
Chapter 3 — 9 Months Inside The Skillians Data Science Program
Before I joined, I didn't know what a 'for loop' was. I had never opened Python. The Skillians program starts from absolute zero — exactly what I needed.
Month 1–2 · Python, SQL & Statistics Foundations
Variables, loops, functions, OOP. SQL joins, subqueries, window functions. Descriptive statistics, probability, hypothesis testing. Daily assignments, two mini projects. By Week 6, I was writing scripts on my own.
Month 3–4 · Data Analytics — Where I Found My Confidence
Business dashboards, KPI visualisation — this mapped onto my BBA background. The Power BI module was intense; DAX took me two weekends to truly get. Built 3 DA projects and started a GitHub profile.
Month 5–6 · Machine Learning — The Hardest and Most Rewarding Phase
Week 1 of supervised learning felt like reading a foreign language. My mentor said something I still remember: 'You don't need to understand every equation. You need to understand when and why to use each model. The rest is practice.' Regression, classification, clustering, model evaluation, hyperparameter tuning.
Month 7–8 · Capstone Projects & Specialisation
End-to-end pipelines. I built a retail churn predictor and a credit risk scoring model with full deployment on Streamlit. This is when my portfolio started looking like a working data scientist's.
Month 9 · GenAI, LLMs & RAG (Optional, but I stayed)
Built a GenAI FAQ chatbot using LangChain and the OpenAI API for a mock e-commerce client. Deployed on Streamlit. This project literally came up in my PwC HR interview — they asked me to explain how I built it, and I spent 15 minutes walking them through the RAG pipeline. By end of Month 9: 10+ projects on GitHub, a complete portfolio site, and a placement team ready to go.
Chapter 4 — How I Got Placed at PwC Gurgaon in 3 Months
The moment I submitted my final capstone project, the placement team reached out. Not 'we'll get back to you' — a specific person, my dedicated placement coordinator, called me the next day.
- Week 1 — Profile Ready: resume rebuilt, LinkedIn optimised by the Skillians career team.
- Week 2–3 — Mock interviews: 4 technical mocks, 2 HR mocks. Brutal feedback, but it made me sharp.
- Week 4–6 — First applications: 30+ companies via the Skillians hiring partner network and referrals.
- Week 7–9 — Interview rounds: 6 first-round interviews, 3 progressed to final rounds.
- Week 10 — PwC Gurgaon: assessment → technical → manager round → HR.
- Week 12 — Offer: Data Analyst, PwC Gurgaon. CTC above the ₹6 LPA non-tech guarantee.
The technical round questions I remember: 'Walk me through your retail churn project end to end.' I knew this project cold — I built it. 'Explain a SQL window function with an example.' Standard, but I had drilled this in mocks. 'You have a BBA background. Why data science?' I was prepared: BBA gave me business context, Skillians gave me technical skills. I understand both the boardroom and the Python notebook.
The GenAI chatbot question turned into a 15-minute conversation about RAG pipelines. That was the moment I knew I had the job. I got the call three days after the HR round. I cried. I actually cried.
Chapter 5 — My Honest Skillians Review (Ratings & What Was Hard)
What worked brilliantly:
- Curriculum (5/5) — start-from-zero pacing, modern stack including GenAI and LLMs.
- Mentorship (5/5) — 1:1 mentor available on Slack, replied even at midnight before deadlines.
- Placement Support (5/5) — dedicated coordinator, resume, LinkedIn, mock rounds, referrals.
- PAP / Fee Structure (5/5) — transparent, no hidden charges, EMI started only after Day 1 at PwC.
- Projects & Portfolio (5/5) — 10+ real projects on GitHub by Month 9.
- Community & Peers (4/5) — strong cohort, study groups, growing alumni network.
Honest feedback on what was hard:
- Month 5 ML phase is genuinely difficult. From zero math background, set aside 3–4 extra hours per week.
- Evening batch is intense for working people. I was doing a ₹10K internship by day and classes by night.
- Placement pace varies by cohort — don't compare timelines, trust the process.
- This is not a passive 'watch videos' course. Miss projects, skip mocks, ghost your mentor — and the CTC guarantee criteria won't be met. You have to show up.
Non-tech graduates are treated as first-class students. My BBA background was never a disadvantage — if anything, my business understanding made me stronger in case studies.
Chapter 6 — Pay After Placement vs Upfront: My View
If you can afford to pay upfront and you have strong trust in the institute, upfront may make financial sense. But if you're a fresh graduate with limited savings, unsure about outcomes, PAP is not just better — it is the only rational choice. Why would you take 100% of the financial risk when you can share it with the institution responsible for your outcome?
Chapter 7 — The Skillians Numbers That Matter
- 1,500+ students placed since 2021
- 207+ hiring partners
- Highest CTC: ₹47.6 LPA
- CTC guarantee: 8 LPA (tech) / 6 LPA (non-tech)
- 100% live classes with industry mentors
My Final Word
If you are a 2024 or 2025 graduate who doesn't know what comes next — I was you, 12 months ago. ₹10K internship. No technical skills. No clear path forward. Terrified.
I found The Skillians on an Instagram ad at 11 PM. I was sceptical. I researched for four days. I enrolled. I showed up every evening for 9 months, failed assignments, rebuilt projects, messaged my mentor at midnight, and built a GitHub portfolio from nothing.
Three months after graduating, I joined PwC Gurgaon as a Data Analyst. CTC above the guarantee. EMIs that come out of my salary, not my family's savings. A career I actually want to be in.
Was The Skillians perfect? No. Were some phases brutally hard? Yes. Would I do it again? Without a single second of hesitation.
